Seattle Steamrat Patch by porkshanks Seattle Steamrat Patch by porkshanks
Hot off the presses... Captain Befu, organizer of the Steamrats just gave me this, its the patch design she had made up for the group to sell at the Abney Park show tonight in Seattle.

She used my original black and white version of the logo because colour patches would have probably looked too busy and a lot of the detail would have been lost. Overall I like it! It has the gear shape around the border that I was hoping for, and they even have the rivet details on the rat. The size of the patch is 4 inches.

If you want to get one, simply email Befu at:

iriselfl@gmail.com

the patches are $4, plus a small shipping fee.

Note: Niether I nor the Steamrats make a profit from this, I made the design for free and the cost covers her expenses from making them.

Really really wicked! You are so multi-talented it makes me kick the wall. I want one because I so love your work and the design, but don't live in Seattle ergo I would feel silly. Hmm, maybe someday soon you could make more generic patches for all us steamers internationally to proudly display?

xoxo

well, I would love to design more patches... the only issue is that the cost is a bit prohibitive, so they would have to be something that a lot of people would buy or I lose on the investment :)

Do you have a suggestion for a patch you would get that others might want as well?

I was thinking of making a Chrono-Corp patch, and a Chordist Kinship ritual design.

I do lead a blessed life, I know!

You are personally welcome to peruse my memories of Abney Park while I slumber, if you would enjoy that.

sometimes it does, yes... there are a lot of artists up here that all sort of stumbled into it at one time a year or two back! Just one of those things that makes a scene happen...

First, you have Eliza Gauger who first started Abney Park on their steamy way, then you have myself accidentally stumbling into steampunk and dressing steampunk full time for about 9 months straight in 2007, Unhallowed Metropolis et all, Hannah Sarah, Noxen Lux hats etc, Winnegan Fake, The Lastwear kids, Velvet Gardet, then Libby moved here, there is Professor Fate, then you have Steamrats, Martin and Diana start building Steamcon for 2009, the list freaking goes on and on and on now, I am actually forgetting a bunch of people, and we're still growing quite nicely!

But yes... Seattle Steampunk scene ftw! I am proud to know of so many talented and kickass people through this weird art/cultural movement.

We also have some nice connections to some of the Oregon and California steampunks, so its really almost a west coast scene now.

good luck! I wish I could live in southern California myself, but my fiance has decreed he will never move there, so I remain in Seattle for now. We are thinking of moving to portland or northern cali some day. It would be fun to eventually meet you in person some time, after chatting with you in forums occassionally for so many months :)

he hates warm weather!

i grew up in milwaukee, I used to go down to chicago like every other weekend in college.. about 1994 to 1996. I loved hanging out down there!

I dunno, I have a feeling we will meet someday, somehow :)

well its that he has a hard time with his sinuses in the warm months. When its cold out and rainy he says the air doesn't bother him as much.

I'm sure meeting me would be a bit of a disappointment, I'm seriously sort of boring compared to what people probably think of me from online.

But thanks, I would like to know you better too, you seem like a good person. I sure do like corrupting good people... lol I keed you, I'm a keeder! Serious tho, if you ever want to email me to ask a question, tell me about yourself, etc; I like having penpals and I love meeting interesting people and learning about their lives.

Maybe that's the real reason I keep being drawn to move to Seattle. In Dayton, I think I'm just about the only artist that even dabbles in Steampunk.

Man, I wouldn't mind one =D

Although I'm not from Seattle, and not even an American, I'm such a huge steampunk fan....... not huge like in tall, or fat or even super muscled)... I mean, I'm tall but not huge.... Hey, you know what I mean!!! :XD:

Just kidding! Wonderful design, and beeing a university student I have a cape with patches and that one would look just awesome in it.

Maybe one day we could do a project together, if I overcome my genetic lazyness... =D

lol...

as for working on a project, I love working on collaborations with other artists, I just don't have much time for anything new right now because I'm... well working on stuff with people XD

What sort of thing would you want to do? Just curious!

Well, I've realized that I wrongly thought that I was new to steampunk. I've opened my mind to it since I started to be more active in DA, but as a child I would desassemble anything I could and do monster robots and strange machines with the parts... I've been wanting to do so again, although some guidance would be welcome.

This because I started a project for a friend that I never finish for lack of the right tools and, more recently, time.

I need to feel challenged to be able to work properly. The collaboration would be kind off work exchange, for example, artwork for my writings, literature to your artwork, or vice versa and whatever. Not saying you're not creative enough, I've seen your gallery, I KNOW you are awesomely creative.

I was thinking of a series of short stories, related but not directly, having the props has engine for the main plot. A DA Steampunk Story Collaboration project that even your friends could collab, if they wanted, with characters, photos, anything. I don´t know if such a thing already exists...

Tell me your thoughts about it and availability. =D I thank you just for the thought of it. If not possible now, maybe in another time ;)
