Artist's Comments

Another strange item from the Harwich Banfeld collection labeled:

"item 44: Mysteria

age: discovered 1822, created ?

location: unearthed during the construction of the Cascadian Imperial Congressional Pavillion, the item has been carbon dated repeatedly over the last few decades to wildly differing results each time, ranging from the late Cretaceous Period through the highly improbably result of a few years after its discovery.

The eye appears to move about occasionally, and will blink with a nictitating-membrane-like flap of skin when you move a finger or pointed object to touch it.

The molested clock hand on the bottom resonates with random tones when a moderate electrical current is applied."

There are two kinds of people: Those who look for funny things to put in their signatures, those who come up with funny things for their signatures, and those who purposely don't keep track of numbers to make whatever they write seem funny.

It can blink, so presumably it is some kind of alive, or at very least aware, and somebody has been running current through it? What kind of museum is the Harwich Banfeld collection housed in, Porkshanks?

Love the piece and the description about it's odd properties, like the inability to date it and the living eye (creepy!).

I like your use of the term "molested clock hand." What does it mean to have the clock hand be described as "molested?" :)

wow... I suspect that one would disturb me to live with. *imagines it hung up on the wall and catching it's glance every now and again* *shiver*
